They have a cozy house with a garden and their days pass peacefully until a trivial car accident suddenly catapults them into a curious beyond. They are still in their home but their existence is comically disembodied. Husband and wife however believe they can somehow resume their old habits until Charles and Delia Deetz—a sophisticated New York couple seeking tranquility—decide to move to Winter River with their daughter Lydia. Unaware of the presence of the two ghosts they purchase the house and transform it—both in structure and furnishings—according to their tastes and an abstract impersonal fashion. Adam and Barbara disturbed by all this are forced to take refuge in the attic. The two ghosts plot to frighten the Deetzes and force them to leave the house also resorting to the evil Beetlejuice a specialist in spectral magic. But the Deetzes see the actions of the three ghosts as an opportunity for unexpected financial gain and prepare to transform the Maitlands' peaceful home into a kind of otherworldly amusement park. Their venal initiative however unleashes a devilish unleashing of earthly and otherworldly forces beyond all possible predictions.
